Deleting files is never enough when it comes to sensitive data. With the right application, someone can easily recover the information you wanted gone. To prevent such situations, you should use a specialized application of your own to delete the files permanently. Roborub can destroy any data on your hard drive and make it unrecoverable for any third party utility. It places three shredding methods at your disposal, as well as various options for erasing specific file types, from one or more folders of your choice.

The application is free to try with some limitations. It comes in a small package and it can be installed in a few moments. You can use Roborub on Windows 2000 or any later edition, without sacrificing too many resources. If you can spare 100 MB of disk space and if your computer has at least 512 MB of RAM, then you can run the application without any difficulties.

Roborub works in the background, to avoid getting in your way and to prevent unauthorized users from shredding your personal data. When you delete a file, using the SHIFT+DEL keyboard combination, the software will shred the files in the background. You can bring up Roborub's compact user interface through a default keyboard combination (CTRL+ALT+U).

The interface presents a wide range of wiping options, on several tabs. You can wipe the free space on a selected partition and compile a list of file extensions and folders. Additionally, the application allows you to choose one of three shredding methods. With the weakest method, the application will make one pass, when deleting data, while with the strongest method, Roborub will make 34 passes.

Besides regular files, the application can erase your recent file history and the USB device log automatically, every few hours. Erasing the entire browsing history, on demand, is another possibility.

Pros

The application can shred files, according to your personal settings, when you delete them in Windows Explorer. You can aim it at specific folders or file extensions. It is also possible to erase the recent file history, USB device log and the browsing history.

Cons

The trial version comes with many limitations, so you can't evaluate Roborub's capabilities properly. While using Roborub, the file you delete will stay deleted. Even with the best recovery utility, no one will be able to salvage the erased data.
